Inspired by rum’s naval history, this strength carries a special significance. Rum was once stored in wooden barrels together with gunpowder below decks on ships. In case the rum barrels started leaking and soaking into the gunpowder, the alcohol content had to be at least 57% as anything below this would mean that the gunpowder would not burn. This navy strength spiced rum is created with a blend of rums from Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, and is infused with notes of vanilla, cinnamon and aromatic tonka bean.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Immediate cinnamon subsides into vanilla.
Palate: Fiery and heavy on the cinnamon and vanilla without it being overwhelming. Earthy bass-notes come from the black cardamom, but these are tempered by the aromaticity /brightness of the green cardamom. Tonka Bean permeates throughout, providing a nutty, ever so slight fruit character.
Finish: Long and continuously evolving, the base rum really shines here, giving the product an unmistakeable and familiar quality.
